In the
past week I have come realize this pregnancy is going to require more of
everything! When we first knew we were having triplets, it started with more
folic acid. In addition to a prenatal, my RE prescribed folic acid 2 x a day,
which adds up to a dose a day for each baby. My acupuncturist added in extra
B12 and my nutritionist added in extra Calcium. Today, my OB added in more
iron. Today my OB also told me I need to eat 2000 calories for a healthy
pregnancy plus an additional 500 calories for each additional baby. That’s 3000
calories folks! That would be easy if I ate fast food three square meals a day,
but I am supposed to be eating veggies and fruits (not sure how that would ever
add up to 3000 calories). And of course, how could I forget, more water (which
does wonders for your bladder). Finally, the best news (said sarcastically) is
that I needed more shots of progesterone – two weeks more. Jay and I
(especially Jay) were all set to celebrate the final shot tomorrow, but alas. I
won’t even get started on the more of everything we are going to need when the
babies arrive (I’ve been working on preliminary baby registry this week too but
that's a whole separate post).
Hands down, my two favorite activities in life are sleeping and eating, so (according to Jay), I should be one happy camper right now. Not so much. I'm just a little baffled about the fluid, pill, and food intake expected of me right now. The thing I am having the hardest time with so far is doing less. I am always doing two (or more) things at once, which should serve me well when three babies arrive, but has made it really hard for me to cut back unless my body just demands a nap. Making cutting back even harder is the ton of work projects, moving plans, and preparing our world for three babies. However, I am committed to cutting back because I know that is what the babies and my body need right now. I’ll have plenty of time to run around like a crazy person when the babies get here.
